Hmmm, yeah, so..

I don't blog enough? I don't keep a journal of any kind, I just keep having these adventures in my little biosphere, accompanied by all sorts of random thoughts upon which I continually expound to no one. I start telling mey friends about my exploits & ideas, but since they are so involved, I tend to ramble as my brain wraps around the details - not having crystalized them yet - and so before I get to the real interesting, climactic parts (or, in other words, before I get to "the point" of my stories) I'm cut off by the other and I start listening to whatever stories or ideas my "tapping around the edges" has conjured up in his or her mind. Then I go back to painting, I can't just rant all day, can I? Who would want to listen? Who would even care?
Well, apparently, you care, dear friend, so allow me to amaze you as I expound upon... ah, bollocks.

I never start typing an essay or journal entry by my own gumption - if I'm gonna discipline my self to be diligent about something, it'll be drawing or painting... speaking of which, I oughtta get back to that in a minute...

But so before I go, let me fill you in by copy/pasting this epic message reply to a FB friend. It will give you a window into where my world has been recently.

Note that I'm typing this stream of conscious, without editing myself, so if you've made it past my assuredly long-winded "this-n-that" expository paragraphs (am I using proper diction? I dunno, I'm living dangerously!), ahem, if you have, then here's your cookie.

Oh, and before that though, let me just say... ah forget it, I need to post more regular art updates, that's all. Here's afore-mentioned FB message:

Whew! I started to hear myself talking and I was like " I better bale before I reveal how retarded I truly am!"
I guess I wasn't drunk, so much as loquacious with spirits... sure, we'll go with that ;)
No, I never made it out to the party, but we had a blast at some little dive down in Brooklyn... [name witheld because I don't know who's reading this stuff]? Apparently it's the hole in the wall where everybody who's anybody in the Manhattan Jazz scene is known to creep. It had a great, cozy-bordering-on-claustrophobic atmosphere to it. The people I met were mad friendly, presumably because "R" introduced me to his friend, a regular, who's a local artist, and we hit it off just swell - ha, anyone who wants to talk about art to no end is automatically speaking my language. Very unpretentious these people were, I loved it.
The party beforehand, the one I invited to you, was a blast too. I felt a little unhip walking in, but once I started breaking the ice, people were genuinely friendly. "J" was adorable, she had this amazing "timid, but surrounded by friends and loved-ones so I'm alright" stage presence. Her lyrics really spoke to me too. Not the type of music I typically seek out, but it was obviously heart-felt and there was this great vibe to it. Wonderful "library-esque" pastiche too. I should be writing reviews for magazines, hah, this is me restraining my analysis!
Anyway, 'J' said that because so many people showed up, they'd be doing a lot more of these events in the future :)

So blahblahblah. What do you like to do around here? I'm new to the area so I generally rely on friends to show me where it's at. Doh! We coulda seen my friend perform standup comedy with free eggnog, jello shots and sticky-buns tonight... I had no one to go with and was feeling a little tired, so I missed "Puns & Puns Xmas special" for a second year in a row... poop.

Still typing my life story... I should just keep up with my blog to spare people like you the sordid details of my day-to-day life...
Oh, but you would have loved the Sach's 5th Avenue window displays at 5 am... they were these surreal animatronic installations with creepy mannequin children and bubbles and tentacles and clockwork elements... splendid when you're the only one on the streets. I oughtta just copy & paste this into my blog... that's what I'm gonna do George!! :P

Oh, so, yeah, let me know if you're up to anything in the upcoming weeks, I've still got my monthly LIRR pass for December, and I'm aiming to get out into the city as much as I can before it runs out.
Is your puppet troup doing anything in the near future?

Best,
P.

There, that was it. I did read that, you'll have noticed, in order to edit out specific names. I don't know who you are, reading this... reveal yourself!!! Nah, but I've heard stories of creepy stalkers... well, it'd be hard to creep me out, but I must protect the identities of innocent bystanders and beautiful venues that I'm privilaged to be inducted into by friends. I left "Buns & Puns" in there though, that's a real thing, go heckle them... well, don't, but I figure they wouldn't mind the publicity.

Oh, so check out my CA sketchbook, soon-to-be-updated-after-months-of-neglect. There's more info for my internet stalkers to get off on over there, plus perdy pictures that I'ma post asap... but first I must paint some more. Gonna give this "sexy faerie Tale Character" theme contest a whirl. got less than 40 hrs left before contest closes. Thinking of doing Ursula... ,ore to come... *cue bass drums*

"Page Demon" Just a little sketch from my student days that I decided recently to punch up in photoshop.
If I were to go back and work on it some more, I might add some contrast by darkening the area around the figure's shoulders and breasts.
Overall, I'm happy with it, although I always invite criticism.

"Batroach" for Charles K. Campbell's Magic Coin novel.
This creature was supposed to embody the sense of vile disgustingness invoked by each of it's amalgamated creatures ( I happen to personally find bats to be cute, but that's beside the point).
The creature had to also be child friendly, so hopefully this makes them wince but doesn't cause nightmares.
Does it come through? You tell me.
